Instructors teaching online courses at MU, UMKC and UMSL are required to complete an online teaching certification professional development experience. Additional information, including policy details, is located on the UM System Online Teaching Certification page.
Currently, Missouri Online | Office of eLearning offers two online asynchronous seminars to help instructors meet the online teaching certification requirements. Instructors need to complete only one of the following:
- Instructors new to online teaching or UM System or who have not previously completed online teaching certification are invited to register for the 6-week Online Teaching Certification Seminar (OTCS) that is designed to help deliver quality learning experiences for their students.
- Instructors who have completed an online teaching certification professional development experience in the past 5 years are invited to register for the 3-week Online Teaching Recertification Seminar (OTRS) that builds upon skills learned in OTCS.
Online Teaching Certification Dashboards
Deans and department chairs have access to a Tableau dashboard that tracks instructor completion for teaching certification at MU, UMKC and UMSL. The dashboard indicates when certification is due and what action should be taken to achieve completion.
Quality Course Reviews (QCRs)
For additional information about the Quality Course Review (QCR) process and to submit a course for review, please see UM System’s Request a Quality Course Review page.
Instructors preparing a course for QCR or currently going through the QCR process are invited to visit the Quality Course Review Guide for Instructors to learn more about the various items on the 5 Pillars Quality Review form and how to apply the items to individual online courses. Instructional designers also are available to consult with instructors on course design elements.
Quality Course Review Dashboards
Currently, deans and department chairs have access to a Tableau dashboard that tracks the status of QCRs at MU, UMKC and UMSL. If a course review has been completed in the past 5 years, the year of completion is included on the dashboard. A typical QCR is good for 5 years. After 5 years have passed since the completion date, the review status will revert back to “Not Reviewed.”
Deans and department chairs may use the following institution-specific instructions to access the Quality Course Review Dashboards.
