Spring instructional design webinars

A group of people collaborating over a table filled with books, papers, and colorful stationery.

UM System faculty and staff are invited to attend an instructional design webinar series hosted by Missouri Online. Instructional designers, instructional technologists, and faculty guests will present ideas and practices related to online teaching and learning (design, assessment, community, and/or inclusion) and innovative areas such as artificial intelligence. You’ll discover high-engagement, active learning strategies and have the chance to ask questions and learn from peers.

Some webinar topics are associated with Missouri Online’s Sprint ahead: Online faculty development program. If you choose to enroll in the associated sprints to continue your learning, you’ll be well-prepared to earn badges in the program.

Below are the webinars taking place in Spring 2024:

Trailblazing with Articulate Storyline: A Virtual Journey through Rock Bridge Memorial State Park

Date: Fri, Mar 1, 2024
Time: 01:00 PM - 01:45 PM

Join us for a virtual field trip to learn how a team of Mizzou researchers and instructional designers engage Geology students with an interactive Virtual Field Experience (VFE) they created using the Articulate Storyline e-learning platform.

VFEs supplement field education in Geology curricula when those opportunities are limited by inclement weather, inaccessible field sites, or global pandemics. Frequent cancellations of a mandatory field trip to Rock Bridge Memorial State Park led the team to develop a VFE of the park that includes:

  • role-playing elements
  • 360° photographs
  • interactive annotations and quizzes
  • narrated overlays
  • and scavenger hunt activities

The team's research shows that the VFE is as effective as in-person field trips in supporting learning objectives and fostering engagement. Experience it for yourself!

Moderator: Bryant Lazenby, Instructional Designer, Missouri Online

Presenters:

  • Sarah Jacquet, Assistant Professor, Geological Sciences, University of Missouri-Columbia (MU)
  • Danielle Oprean, Assistant Professor, School of Information Science & Learning Technologies (SISLT), MU
  • Eury Speir, Teaching Assistant and PhD Candidate, Geological Sciences
  • Ruan du Plessis, SISLT graduate and instructional designer

Incorporating AI in Teaching: Faculty Reflection

Date: Wed, Apr 3, 2024
